Armed Forces Medical College, Pune is a premier medical institution in India. AFMC has the distinction of being the first medical college set up by the Armed Forces of any country in Asia. The college is a unique institution which combines medical education with training specific to the health care needs of the Armed Forces. AFMC is affiliated to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences and functions under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India.
AFMC was established on 01 May 1948. The college conducts 59 academic programmes and annually trains over 750 undergraduates, 650 medical and dental postgraduates, 1,200 paramedical trainees and 160 nursing undergraduates and postgraduates. They are taught by a faculty of 300 highly qualified teachers. The college combines academic rigour with a legacy of service.
AFMC has been consistently rated among the top three medical colleges in India by surveys published by reputed newsmagazines for the past decade. AFMC is accreditated from NAAC since 2003 with high gradings. During the fourth cycle of re-accreditation carried out in Apr 2023 by NAAC, AFMC has been awarded Cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.45 out of maximum 4, with 'A+' Grading.
The college is located in an environment friendly campus stretching over 119 Acres near Ramtekri in eastern Pune. Apart from well-maintained gardens, the campus is home to an interesting mix of heritage buildings as well as ultramodern facilities.

The Department of Community Medicine at AFMC has been central to the reputation of AFMC for excellence, recording 174 of 400 distinctions in undergraduate Community Medicine over the last three years and producing five MUHS Gold Medallists at the postgraduate level since 2009. It’s research footprint includes over 50 publications in the last three years, three AFMRC projects, five Anveshan grants, and three extramural projects funded by ICMR, IISc and DRDO.
The Department also houses the ICMR Regional Centre for Health Technology Assessment, awarded the Silver Medal for Best HTA Centre in 2025, and the Armed Forces Research Centre for Medical Entomology, alongside strong collaborations with ICMR, NCDC, WHO, INCLEN and DRDO, a robust ecosystem for nurturing young public health leadership.
The Department has the largest Public Health Museum in India. Further, the department has published the Textbook of Public Health & Community Medicine in collaboration with the World Health Organisation and Manual of Health for Armed Forces (the Red Book), for the Armed Forces Medical Services of India.
Over successive editions, the Indian Association of Preventive & Social Medicine - Young Leaders' National Conclave (IAPSM YLNC) has grown into a premier and sought after national event for early-career public health professionals less than 45 years of age. Recent past conclaves were hosted at prestigious institutions such as AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, AIIMS, New Delhi and Goa Medical College. Each edition has strengthened the conclave by bringing in culture of mentorship, exchange transformative ideas, networking and platform to innovate. This year the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune will carry the legacy forward.
It is with great pleasure & honour that we present the 7th edition of Indian Association of Preventive and Social Medicine Young Leaders’ National Conclave (IAPSMYLNC-2026) at the Department of Community Medicine, Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, on 20-21 Nov 2026 with the theme “Innovative, Dynamic & Resilient – Empowering Future Public Health Stewardship for Viksit Bharat 2047”. The pre-conclave workshop will be held on 19 November 2026.
The conclave will provide a unique platform to the future leadership of Public Health for a collaborative discourse to embrace transformative ideas, evidence-based strategies, and technological advancements. IAPSMYLNC-2026 will bring together eminent Public Health professionals, policymakers in healthcare delivery, Preventive and Social Medicine practitioners, health researchers, academicians and students of Community Medicine from across the country.
The event will have multiple scientific plenary sessions, panel discussions, demonstrations, workshops, oral paper and poster presentations. The young leaders can engage in meaningful scientific deliberations, exchange ideas, network and learning from the best. Further, numerous competitions like health parliament, hackathon, debate, quiz, etc. will be held for the young leaders to stamp their arrival in the fraternity of Public Health.
